On March 10th, 2014, our KOHA family lost one of our own; an 11 year old little warrior named Nicklas Barnes. Our board and staff decided to rename our Annual KOHA Golf Outing in his honor. Nicklas' family has been involved in the outing since 2014 to help keep his spirit alive amongst our hockey family. Each year, the proceeds from our golf outing benefit our sportship and grass roots programs. Even if you are unable to join us at the event, please consider making a donation to our event in Nicklas's honor.

On Monday, March 10, 2014, KOHA lost a member of our hockey family, 11 year old Nicklas Barnes. His parents wanted us to share this with our hockey community:
Nicklas died unexpectedly on Monday morning as he was preparing for school. There are still some unknowns, but we believe that his heart just gave out suddenly and nothing we did that morning could save him.
Nicklas was a special kid. He had many health problems as a newborn and we did not know he would make it pass day one. Well, we were blessed with 11+ years with him.
Nicklas loved hockey and we are very grateful for KOHA teaching him the game of hockey. From learn to skate to Squirts; every one of the volunteers at KOHA that he came across was always very nice and encouraging.
He was always the smallest kid in his age group, but he gave everything he had every time he hit the ice, he never quit, he loved the game, and he loved all the coaches and his fellow teammates. It showed by the smile on his face. We miss him every minute and know many of the KOHA families will miss him too. It gives us comfort knowing he touched so many lives.
We want to thank the KOHA families for all their thoughts and prayers as our family deals with unexpected death of our son.
