Spike & Sharon Dykes

Spike Dykes was a champion on and off the field. While football was his life, the main thing in Spike's life was his wife Sharon and their family. Spike Dykes passed away on April 10, 2017.

The Spike and Sharon Dykes Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease by raising awareness, support and funds for Alzheimer’s disease research. This foundation was founded in 2012.

This foundation has raised more than $320,000 for Alzheimer's disease research. The charity was founded in honor of Sharon Dykes who died from Alzheimer's in 2010. The inaugural golf tournament was held in 2012 by former Tech players who wanted to honor Coach Dykes' wife. The first event attracted more than 60 former Tech athletes.

Alzheimer's disease is a type of dementia. The most common early symptom of Alzheimer's is difficulty remembering newly learned information.  As Alzheimer's advances through the brain it leads to increasingly severe symptoms, including disorientation, mood and behavior changes. There currently is no cure.
